✈️ By Air

You will be flying into Kunming Changshui International Airport (KMG), one of China’s busiest aviation hubs. You can search for flights to Kunming on platforms like Skyscanner or Google Flights.

Getting to the City: You have two excellent options.

• Metro Line 6: This is the fastest and most efficient method. It connects the airport directly to Tangzixiang (塘子巷) in the city center, where you can easily transfer to other lines.
• Airport Shuttle Bus: Several lines run from the airport to key city locations. A ticket to Kunming Railway Station costs about 25 RMB.
• Taxi/Didi: Fastest way to get into the city center, however may be affected by jams and prices may be higher as a result.

🚄 By Train

Kunming is the heart of Yunnan’s high-speed rail network. Most travelers will use either Kunming Railway Station (昆明站), which is more central, or the massive Kunming South Railway Station (昆明南站) for high-speed lines.

• From the Train Stations: Both stations are seamlessly connected to the city via the Kunming Metro. Lines 1 and 4 serve Kunming South, while Line 1 serves the main station.

• The Vibe: This district offers a great balance of modern hotels, convenient transport links (it’s near the main train station), shopping malls, and easy access to attractions like Guandu Ancient Town.

The Kunming Metro This should be your primary mode of transport. The metro is clean, fast, bilingual, and efficiently connects the airport, train stations, and nearly all key attractions. You can easily use a QR code from Alipay (ZFB) for payment at the gates.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing For direct routes, Didi (ride-hailing) is your best friend. It’s convenient, affordable, and allows you to input your destination directly in the app.

Shared Bikes: For short distances in pleasant weather, shared bikes and e-bikes are a fantastic way to explore areas like the Green Lake neighborhood or the streets around Yunnan University.
